League of Legends keeps ranked closed until your account hits level 30. Riot's Support page sets the rules. "A game must last at least 7 minutes to give XP," and custom games are not eligible to earn any (Riot Games Support: Reward (BE/XP) System Breakdown, updated February 21, 2026).
So how long is 30 levels? Riot doesn't publish a total. We took the community wiki's per-level XP table, divided it by Riot's own per-game averages, and worked out the hours. The short version: the number of hours matters far more than your win rate, and one old shortcut is gone.
Fast answer: Level 30 costs 39,936 XP. At Riot's average of 204 XP for a 30-minute win and 167 for a loss, that's about 216 games, or 108 hours, at a 50% win rate. A 2x day boost halves it to about 54 hours. Win rate barely moves the total: 40% takes 110 hours, 60% takes 106. Skipping the grind entirely is an option too: account leveling plays the levels for you.
Key takeaways
- Ranked needs level 30, 20 owned champions and 10 full Normal Summoner's Rift games. Level 30 alone isn't enough.
- You need 39,936 XP in total, and about half of it comes after level 22.
- Riot ties XP to game time and result and gives no per-queue rate. A 30-minute win averages 204 XP, a loss 167.
- Days boosts double base XP. Per-win boosts add a flat 210 or so, whatever the game length.
- First Win of the Day is gone. Riot's current XP page lists no first-win bonus.
- Riot's Terms of Service cover every game on your account, including the ones that earn levels.
What Does Ranked Need Besides Level 30?

Level 30 is the first lock, not the only one. The League wiki lists the same three prerequisites for Ranked Solo/Duo and Ranked Flex, and your League client shows the current values (League of Legends Wiki: Ranked game, checked October 11, 2026).
What ranked needs
The same three locks for Solo/Duo and Flex
- Account level 30Reached with XP from matchmade games. Custom games give none.
- 20 owned championsAccess to at least 20 champions, all of them owned.
- 10 Normal gamesAt least 10 full Normal Summoner’s Rift games played.
The champion rule trips up fresh accounts. Free-rotation champions don't count, because the wiki says all 20 must be owned. Riot's level rewards help here. Level 2 lets you pick one of five champions, and most levels up to 30 pay Blue Essence you can spend on more (Riot Games Support).
How Much XP Is Level 30?
The wiki's account-level table gives 39,936 XP to reach level 30 from a new account (League of Legends Wiki: Experience (summoner)). That page is flagged for cleanup and some of its formulas date from 2017, so treat the total as the community's best figure, not Riot's.
The cost per level climbs, then flattens:
Level 22 sits at 20,160 XP, so the second half of the climb starts at about level 22, not 15. Levels 1 to 10 are over in about 3,400 XP, under one tenth of the total.
How Much XP Does a Game Pay?

Riot's page: "The XP system in League of Legends rewards you based on the time you spend playing games. On average, a 30 minute win will earn approximately 204 XP, and a 30 minute loss will earn approximately 167 XP."
Three things follow from that:
- No per-queue rate. Riot gives no separate figure for Normal or Ranked PvP queues. Time and result are the inputs.
- A win pays about 22% more than a loss. That's 204 against 167 for the same 30 minutes.
- Under 7 minutes pays nothing. A remake gives no XP at all.
Co-op vs. AI games pay a share of the normal rate that shrinks as you level. Riot's bands are 100% at levels 1 to 9, 90% at 10 to 19 and 80% at 20 to 29. At level 30 and above it's 75%. Past 180 minutes of bots in a day, the 80% band drops to 65% and the 75% band to 55%.
How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 30?
We divided 39,936 XP by the average XP per game. The assumptions, so you can check them: every game lasts 30 minutes, and the 204 and 167 figures are Riot's averages. Real games vary, so read the hours as an estimate.
Days are rounded up. Play two hours a day instead of four and the days double. If a per-win boost paid on every game, not just wins, the average would be 395.5 XP: about 101 games and 50 hours.
Look at the first three rows. Going from a 40% to a 60% win rate saves about four hours, because XP is mostly time. Rank the levers: boosts first, hours played second, win rate last. Win for the LP you'll want later, but don't expect it to get you to 30 sooner.
What Actually Makes Level 30 Faster?

Everything below comes from Riot's page, with our arithmetic on top.
- Buy a days boost if you'll play a lot. A days-based boost "doubles the base XP earned from a game." Our model halves the 108 hours to about 54. It's paid for in RP in the store.
- Buy a per-win boost if your wins are short. Riot says it "adds a flat amount of around 210 XP per game," and the time played doesn't affect it. The shorter your wins, the more of your XP it supplies. The name says per win, so our table adds it to wins only.
- Use the free 3-day boost, on purpose. New players get a daily play reward during their first week, and day 3 includes an XP boost (3-day). Plan your longest sessions for the three days after you claim it.
- Don't sprint through the first week. Riot warns that the daily rewards "are only available until level 20." You "may miss out on some rewards if you level up too quickly during the first week."
- Don't waste games. Anything under 7 minutes pays nothing, so a remake costs queue time and gives no XP. Cut the dead time between games, because the time you spend inside games is what pays.
- Use bots only in the right band. At levels 20 to 29 they pay 80% of the base rate, and 65% after three hours a day. They're a low-pressure way to learn a champion, not a faster route.
Is First Win of the Day Still a Thing?
No. It was a daily mission worth 400 XP. The wiki records its removal in patch 25.S1.1 on January 7, 2025. A mission to play a game of League or TFT, worth 50 Battle Pass XP, replaced it (League of Legends Wiki: First Win of the Day). Riot's current breakdown lists no first-win bonus. Older guides that tell you to chase it are out of date.
Can You Skip the Grind With Account Leveling?
If you'd rather not spend 108 hours on it, a leveling service plays those games for you. On Pairly, LoL Account Leveling works on the account you already have: choose your current level and a target, Solo or Duo, and the calculator shows the price and an estimate before you pay.
- Solo: a booster plays on your account.
- Duo: you play on your own account alongside the booster, without sharing your login.
- Range: level 30, or any target up to level 500.
- Play style: hand-played, with no bots or gameplay automation.
On October 11, 2026 the catalogue price for level 1 to 30 was €66.75 Solo and €86.79 Duo, before the automatic campaign discount and the service fee. The calculator applies the current discount and shows the total. For Solo, level 1 to 30, it estimated 3 to 5 days. It's an estimate: timing depends on game length, queue time and booster availability.
Buying levels doesn't buy a rank, and neither mode changes Riot's rules. At 30 you still need the 20 champions and 10 Normal games above, and then your placement matches. Any service that plays on your account is covered by Riot's rules. Read Riot's Terms of Service first. We won't call any format risk-free.

Level 30 gets you in the queue; the rank is a separate climb. Our guide to placements, net wins and division boosts explains which one fits which problem. LoL Level 30 FAQ
How long does it take to reach level 30 in LoL?
About 108 hours of matches at a 50% win rate with no boost, assuming 30-minute games. That's 216 games, or roughly 27 days at four hours a day. A 2x day boost cuts it to about 54 hours.
How much XP do you need for level 30 in LoL?
39,936 XP in total, according to the League wiki's account-level table. Level 30 itself costs 2,688 XP, and about half the total arrives after level 22.
What is the fastest way to level up in LoL?
Buy a days XP boost and play long sessions. It doubles the base XP of every game, which our model turns into about 54 hours. Win rate matters much less than hours played.
Can you play ranked at level 30?
Only with 20 owned champions and 10 full Normal Summoner's Rift games as well. Free-rotation champions don't count toward the 20.
Does First Win of the Day still exist?
No. The wiki records its removal in patch 25.S1.1 on January 7, 2025. Riot's current XP page lists no first-win bonus.
How many games does it take to reach level 30?
About 216 at a 50% win rate with no boost, assuming 30-minute games: 39,936 XP divided by an average of 185.5 XP per game. A days boost brings it to about 108 games.
Can you pay someone to level your account to 30?
Yes, a leveling service plays the games for you. On Pairly, LoL Account Leveling works on your existing account, Solo or Duo, and shows the price and estimate before you pay. It's covered by Riot's Terms of Service like any other game on your account, and no service is risk-free.
Do bot games level you up faster?
No. Co-op vs. AI pays a percentage of normal XP: 80% at levels 20 to 29, falling to 65% after 180 minutes in a day. They're useful for learning champions, not for speed.
