The 2026 League of Legends World Championship starts on October 15 and ends with the Grand Final on November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It's the first Worlds in North America since 2022, and it runs across three venues: Los Angeles for the Play-In, Allen, Texas for everything up to the semifinals, and New York for the final.
Nineteen teams qualify. Riot gave Brazil's CBLOL a second slot for this year's event. The tournament is played on patch 26.20 with Fearless Draft in every series that goes past one game. T1 have won the last three Worlds and can make it four.

When Is Worlds 2026? Full Schedule by Stage
Worlds 2026 runs from October 15 to November 14, 2026. Riot published the stage dates and venues in March (LoL Esports: MSI and Worlds Updates, March 22, 2026):
The Play-In was originally planned for Texas too. Riot moved it to its own arena in Los Angeles "due to a few logistical challenges," in the same March post. Allen sits just north of Dallas, so almost the whole event runs on Central Time.
There are six days between the last semifinal and the final. The whole production moves from Texas to New York in that gap.
Which Teams Qualified for Worlds 2026?
Sixteen of the 19 teams are confirmed. The table below is the qualification state on September 24, 2026, taken from Liquipedia's Worlds 2026 qualification page and the esports.gg slot breakdown.
Why do Korea and China get four slots? Hanwha Life won MSI 2026 in July, which gives the LCK an extra team. Bilibili Gaming finished second there, which gives the LPL one as well. Both rules were set out in Riot's March post.
What's Still Undecided
Three spots are still open, plus the LCS seeding:
- LCS: Team Liquid and Cloud9 are in. The third team, and the order of all three seeds, comes out of the LCS Summer playoffs, which Liquipedia lists as running until October 4.
- CBLOL: both Brazilian spots are open. The CBLOL Split 2 playoffs finish on October 3, per Liquipedia.

How Does the Worlds 2026 Format Work?
The format has three stages, and it's close to last year's. Riot said the only changes are the Play-In format and regional seeding. Details below come from Liquipedia's Worlds 2026 page.
Play-In: four teams, one spot
Four teams play a double-elimination bracket in Los Angeles. Every match is best-of-five. Only the winner moves on to the Swiss Stage. Riot said the seeding, and so which four teams play here, would be set by regional results including MSI 2026 and announced later. As of September 24 it hasn't been published.
Swiss Stage: 16 teams, three wins to advance
The Play-In winner joins the 15 teams that skip it. Each team plays until it has three wins, which sends it to the quarterfinals, or three losses, which sends it home. That takes at most five rounds. Matches that decide advancement or elimination are best-of-three. Everything else is a single game.

Knockout Stage: eight teams, best-of-five
The eight teams that reach three wins go into a single-elimination bracket. All matches are best-of-five. In the quarterfinals, the team with the better Swiss record chooses side or pick order for game one. In the semifinals and the final, a coin flip decides.
What Is Fearless Draft at Worlds?
Fearless Draft means a champion can only be played once per series. Once a team picks a champion in game one, neither team can pick it again in games two to five. Worlds 2026 uses it in every best-of-three and best-of-five match, from the Play-In to the final (Liquipedia).
Teams with deep champion pools gain the most. A five-game final can use up to 50 champions, ten per game. A team that relies on one composition has to switch to something else from game two onward.
Solo queue has no Fearless rule, so you can play the same three champions all season. The limit shows up when those picks get banned or countered. Which Patch Is Worlds 2026 Played On?
Worlds 2026 is played on patch 26.20 for the whole event (Liquipedia). Ranked keeps getting patches while the tournament runs, so by November your client may be a patch or two ahead of the pros. Check the patch number before you copy a build you saw on stage.

Can T1 Win a Fourth Straight Worlds?
T1 won Worlds 2023, 2024 and 2025. Last year they beat KT Rolster 3–2 in Chengdu after trailing 1–2, becoming the first team to win three world titles in a row (Dexerto). It was their sixth title overall.
This year they arrive as Korea's third seed, behind Gen.G and MSI champion Hanwha Life. Faker is making his 11th Worlds appearance, more than any other player, per Liquipedia's player appearance table. Ruler, Caps, Meiko and CoreJJ are next on nine each.
A lower seed doesn't mean much in a Swiss Stage. T1 won each of the last three Worlds without being Korea's first seed.

Worlds doesn't touch the ranked ladder, but it overlaps with the last stretch of Season 3. The season is expected to close in early January 2027, and the end-of-season rewards depend on wins and Honor, not only your rank.
